Description The music program at HWC offers comprehensive resources to develop yourself and your career. With an excellent faculty, diverse courses, fine facilities, and an exciting urban setting, this community college experience provides every advantage you need for serious musical studies. One of the best community colleges in the country, HWC is strong not only in music but also in major disciplines across the curriculum. Situated in Chicago's downtown loop, the college is within walking distance to major cultural venues, like the Art Institute, Symphony Center, the Lyric Opera, numerous theatres and music clubs. The two-year AFA degree programs can prepare you to transfer to any undergraduate (4-year) Bachelor's degree program in music. The Certificate programs provide you with a solid basis for a direct way into the music industry. Opportunities for solo or group performance and recording of newly composed works are available each semester. Mission The mission of the HWC Music Program is to advance excellence in music and its related disciplines and to promote a deeper understanding of music on the campus and in the larger community. It seeks to educate students in the various fields of the profession through exploration, analysis, performance and production of new, diverse, and historical music repertories and endeavors to create opportunities for artistic, intellectual, technological, and scholarly innovation in the realm of music. The Program is dedicated to excellence in performance, composition, research, and teacher education, undertaken in a spirit of collaboration within the program, as well as with the entire College and CCC district at large. |
