Performance Ensembles

Ensemble courses at Harold Washington College offer students to train with experienced professionals in a serious atmosphere.

Chorus/Vocal Ensemble

The Harold Washington College Chorus is an in demand vocal ensemble that has performed for various events around HWC and the City Colleges of Chicago District. In addition, the ensemble has performed at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The innovative repertoire performed draws primarily from recent choral compositions. Jazz/Pop Ensemble

The Jazz/Pop Ensemble is comprised of a rhythm section (piano/guitar, bass, drums) along with wind and other string instruments. In 2004 they They recorded their first CD Pedagogical Issues at the Chicago Recording Company studios and recently recorded at HWC's new studio in order to contribute to the HWC Music Programs CD/Brochure. Past performances have been at Looptopia (an all-night event sponsored by the city of Chicago), the HWC graduation ceremony, a taping for WYCC Television, and as a featured guest at Jones College Prep High School. Piano Ensemble

A 1-credit class (Music 135) offered to students already taking private piano lessons (181, 182, 281, or 282). Students will perform pieces from the four-hands and two-piano repertoire. Suggested for students who focus on the classical music repertoire. For permission to register, see Professor Bélance, director of the Piano Ensemble.
